1 July 2009

happy canada day! i had such a great day today. i was planning to spend the whole day doing chores but was convinced to come and hang out with s. at the water in yaletown... for several hours. so i did! it was really fun. she told me all about her escapades the night before, dancing the night away. it sounded fun but not really my kind of thing. s. is great but she parties a little bit hard for me. not that i am opposed to partying, just... when it goes off the rails, i don't like to have planned it first, if that makes sense. you can pretty much guarantee that it will happen when you go out with those girls.

anyway... we stopped at this really great wine store in yaletown to pick up a bottle of wine for s.'s barbeque that night. the store was great, they were even doing a tasting that afternoon so we indulged. they had only local wines which i appreciated. we ended up picking this one which is apparently s.'s favourite!

annnnd here's what i ate:

breakfast:
earl grey tea
plain yogurt
blueberries
honey
a giant peach! yum.

i tried to go for a run at some point between breakfast and lunch but i started feeling really sick for some reason... so just chilled out by the water for a while and came back home.

lunch:
water with lemon juice
a huuuuuge salad that i made up with stuff i had around. it actually turned out really well!
it contained: quinoa, blanched kale (chopped), steamed asparagus (chopped), grape tomatoes (halved), chopped red pepper, chopped red onion. the dressing was a tablespoon of olive oil, about a tablespoon and a half of lemon juice, and about a half teaspoon of cayenne. honestly, it could have used more dressing, but it was still pretty delicious with this amount. if i make it again i will be a bit more generous there.
i didn't eat very much of it since i was not feeling so hot. but there was tons left over.

snack:
took some non-dairy dark chocolate chips and some more lemon water down to meet s. we munched on these in the sun while we talked about boys and planned her party for tonight.

dinner:
stopped off at urban fair on the way home and picked up a couple of pieces of salmon. s. grilled it with olive oil, lemon, rosemary and dill. i was unsure about the flavour combination there but it worked pretty well, i think. just tasted very fresh. we ate it with broccoli and mushrooms. oh and i shouldn't forget that she made asparagus wrapped in prosciutto for appies. that was amazing. i don't eat much meat but i love prosciutto.

oh, and between the four of us we drained the pinot gris and started in on some wolf blass yellow label cab sav.

i got home just as the fireworks started and crawled into bed. it was a long day and i am exhausted, as usual.
